Virtual Solar House Scavenger Hunt
Notes:
- NC Solar Center’s Virtual Solar House is located at http://vr.gridc.net/
- You may have to scroll to the bottom of the screen to see data output.
- To move around you can use a mouse or touch pad in addition to arrow keys. Moving around using the touch pad and arrow keys may take some getting used to.
- In order for data to show up in the output box (at the bottom of the screen), you must move up close to a renewable energy technology.
- Users can jump around by pressing the space bar.
- Depending on the time of day and the weather conditions, the virtual environment will differ. For example, if it is day then the virtual environment will show sunlight as opposed to night when it will be darker.
- The solar house operates at Eastern Standard Time (EST).
Activity:
You will use the Solar House Virtual Environment to become familiar with the power produced by renewable energy technologies. Go through the virtual environment to find the various technologies and collect data on how much energy is being produced and consumed. Shown below are the technologies you required to collect the data. Explore the virtual environment to learn as much as you can about the various renewable energy technologies.
